DSE Assessment Tool

If you are working temporarily from home during the COVID-19 lockdown, you may find the following video from the HSE useful;

This tool is based on the HSE's Display screen equipment (DSE) workstation checklist (published 05/13) and can be used to help you complete a risk assessment and comply with the Schedule to the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 as amended by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002. Also referenced is the European Union COUNCIL DIRECTIVE of 29 May 1990 on the minimum safety and health requirements for work with display screen equipment (fifth individual Directive within the meaning of Article 16 (1) of Directive 87/391/EEC) (90/270/EEC).

HSE's brief guide to working with DSE equipment explains that a DSE User is a worker who regularly uses DSE as a significant part of their normal work (daily, for continuous periods of an hour or more) and that employers must;

  • analyse workstations to assess and reduce risks;
  • make sure controls are in place;
  • provide information and training;
  • provide eye and eyesight tests on request, and special spectacles if needed;
  • review the assessment when the user or DSE changes.

We recommend that the chair is adjusted before completing this questionnaire.
